Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Exploration
HTML Area 1 Anadarko's expertise and focused pursuit of large exploration targets in the Gulf of Mexico have made us one of the industry's safest and most successful deepwater explorers. Anadarko has discovered more than 30 fields in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. About 90 percent of our current leads and prospects in the Gulf of Mexico are located in the Miocene and Lower Tertiary plays.
Anadarko's exploration success and hub-and-spoke infrastructure combine to create differentiating value in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Discoveries in the Green Canyon area are evidence of this value-generating combination. The proximity of exploration successes at the Caesar and Tonga West prospects to our 100-percent-owned Constitution production platform enabled us to safely develop and produce these resources more cost effectively. In addition, the discovery and recent sanction of the Lucius field, located in the Keathley Canyon area of the Gulf (operated by Anadarko) will establish important infrastructure in the area, where we have identified additional prospects and opportunities.
Shenandoah Basin Success
Anadarko’s Shenandoah-2 appraisal well in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico encountered more than 1,000 net feet of oil pay in multiple high-quality, Lower Tertiary reservoirs. Similar to the initial Shenandoah discovery well, log and pressure data from the Shenandoah-2 well indicated excellent-quality reservoir and fluid properties. This success has established Shenandoah as one of the company’s largest Gulf of Mexico oil discoveries to date.
