 Wattenberg Horizontal Drilling Program

“Wattenberg HZ is a billion-barrel opportunity in an existing core area, making this field one of the largest and most cost-efficient onshore oil and natural gas projects in the U.S.”

Jim Kleckner
Vice President, Operations
Rockies Region

Anadarko’s Wattenberg Horizontal (HZ) program in northeastern Colorado targets the liquids-rich Niobrara and Codell formations more than 6,000 feet below the earth’s surface. Primarily located north and east of Denver in the Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin, the Wattenberg field is situated in the heart of one of Anadarko’s core operating areas in the Rocky Mountain region.

Anadarko estimates its Wattenberg HZ program holds net resources of 1.0 billion to 1.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BOE).

Every characteristic of the Wattenberg HZ program aligns to make it among the largest and most cost-efficient oil and natural gas development projects in the company’s U.S. onshore portfolio.

Premier Land Position and Mineral Ownership

Anadarko holds extensive mineral rights covering more than two-thirds of Wattenberg field acreage via its Land Grant ownership. The company also has strategic access to, or operates midstream assets, including pipelines and processing. Anadarko is drawing on its 30-year operating experience in the Wattenberg, as well as and transferring knowledge from other assets in its U.S. onshore portfolio to safely and efficiently develop these domestic resources in a manner that protects the environment and minimizes the impact of operations; all of which adds tremendous value to what has become one of the largest producing fields in the U.S.
