Anadarko’s advanced exploratory program in New Zealand is rooted in science and open stakeholder engagement.
Our Growing Presence in New Zealand
Anadarko has been actively exploring in New Zealand since 2008, with offshore acreage in the Canterbury, Pegasus, Deepwater Taranaki and New Caledonia Basins. In 2011 we opened an office in Wellington, which focuses on stakeholder engagement and community relations.
Exploratory Studies and Future Drilling Opportunities
In 2014, Anadarko drilled two exploration wells: one in the Deepwater Taranaki Basin and one in the Canterbury Basin. The results of the wells were not immediately conclusive and are being analyzed to gain a greater understanding of subsea rock formations and geophysical properties.

“Having established strong and positive relationships at the national and community levels, as well as among the ‘iwi’ or indigenous community, Anadarko is building its knowledge and understanding of New Zealand’s deepwater environment and geology as it continues to explore these frontier offshore basins.”
