Schools are important to us, and that is why education is a core area of our philanthropic and volunteer focus. We volunteer through Junior Achievement to teach the basic principles of business and free enterprise at local schools. We support the effort to build homes to help change the lives of well-deserving families through Habitat for Humanity. And through our "Anadarko in Action" program 50 U.S. nonprofit organizations are awarded financial support for the volunteer efforts demonstrated by our employees.
Beyond work, we find personal energy to lend a helping hand to participate and organize projects for specific needs in the community. Whether a community project needs our assistance, or we mobilize volunteers to help rebuild lives after disasters, we act to support global needs. We've organized food and clothing drives, and shaved heads to raise funds in support of an employee's fight against cancer. We don't just respond - we act to make a difference and see differences made.
One of the most effective ways we have found to create positive change in our communities is through United Way. The company has a long history of support to United Way by matching employee donations dollar for dollar, which doubles what United Way can do in our communities. From serving on boards of local United Way affiliates to lending a helping hand during Days of Caring to pledging their personal earnings, employees give generously to the cause. Anadarko grants financial support to hundreds of North American nonprofit organizations and supports various universities' funds for scholarships in the areas of engineering and science.
